Coming off the bye week, the Bay wanted to put together an improved performance across the park after it lost to Woden by 80 points in round two.
The match started slowly and Batemans Bay had a small lead, 1.3 (9) to 1.1 (7), at quarter-time.
The teams went toe-to-toe in the second quarter.
Each side kicked 3.2 (20) and Batemans Bay was still in front by two points at half-time.
The Bay’s slender lead was cut to just one point at three quarter-time as both teams kicked three majors for the quarter.
In the final quarter ADFA had its most explosive scoring period and kicked 4.3 (27) to Batemans Bay’s 3.0 (18) to scrape out an eight-point win.
Seahawks’ captain Sam Millynn was rapt in his side’s improved performance.
“It was a really close game and we had much better output than the week before,” Millynn said.
“The boys definitely showed a lot of heart and never gave up.
“They executed the game plan well; we wanted to put on as much pressure as possible and starve them of the footy.
“It worked well, but they managed to claw their way back into it.”
Millynn said the Seahawks wanted to improve as a team and not just rely on individuals.
“Everyone seemed to work together and team football was happening,” he said.
“The pressure was there, tackling, shepherds; the basics were done really well and when that happens the performance picks up across the board.
“It gives you confidence to know your mate next to you is looking after you and that we are all on the same wavelength.”
However, Millynn said a few individuals did stand tall for the Bay.
“Grossi was unreal,” he said.
“He ran all day and his tackling pressure was great.
“It’s great to have his big body back.
“Luke Dudley played well and the back line was strong.”
The Bay plays ladder leaders, ANU Griffins, at ANU South this Saturday and Millynn hoped his side could deliver another team effort.
“It hasn’t been an ideal start to the season, but if we can pinch one on the road, maybe we can string a few wins together,” he said.
“We’re looking forward to having a strong side on the road this weekend.”
