Sunday marked the end of the surf lifesaving season, with 72 rescues performed on the coast from Batemans Bay to Pambula.

Broulee Surfers Surf Life Saving Club performed 17 rescues, Moruya seven and Narooma two.

Far South Coast director of lifesaving Andrew Edmunds said the region remained fatality free, which he said was a fantastic result.

“A lot of hard work and significant contributions to keeping our coast safe,” he said.

“In 2011-12 we had the most drownings in the state.

"We pleased this year is fatality free, last year we had a drowning at Tathra.

"This year however all our statistics are well down other than beach visitation which continues to be high.”

In addition to the 72 rescues, surf life savers performed 103 first aid treatments and 1063 preventive actions.

An estimated 72,000 people visited the beaches over the season.

Mr Edmunds praised all members for their efforts and also reminded the public beaches would be patrolled again until September.

"We still have call out teams available throughout winter, including jet skis and the Westpac Life Saver Rescue helicopter,” he said.

"If you witness any in water emergency be sure to call 000 and ask for the police.”

There were four rescues at Pambula, three at Tathra, and two at Bermagui.
