A rescue truck and a four-wheel drive loaded with SES volunteers and equipment for any situation hit the road at lunchtime, headed for the areas most badly battered by strong winds and heavy rain.

The four Batemans Bay members and three Moruya volunteers said they expected to be away for two to four days. 

Batemans Bay volunteer Daniel McDermott said they were prepared for anything.

“I have packed my level three water technician gear so I can rescue people out of water if I need to,” he said. 

“There is a lot of flooding, trees down and roof damage up there (in Sydney).

“They have been hit pretty hard and are expecting more bad weather over the next few days.”

Mr McDermott said they would be sent to northern Sydney.

“They are getting teams from everywhere they can,” he said. 

“There are a lot of teams and volunteers in Sydney but they can’t keep up with the number of jobs so it is pretty serious. 

“We have packed everything.”

On board the rescue truck were five chainsaws, plenty of tarps, two sets of roof safety kits and black plastic, as well as other tools and ropes. 

Meanwhile, the Eurobodalla is not yet in the clear, with strong wind and heavy rain expected on Wednesday. 

Mr McDermott said there were still crews in the area to deal with any incidents.
