Secrets & Lies star Anthony Hayes, Love Child star Jonathan LaPaglia and Anzac Girls star Georgia Flood have also been nominated in the best actor and ‎actress categories.

And Australian actress Frances O'Connor​ has been nominated in the best actress category for her work on the critically acclaimed British miniseries The Missing.‎

The nominations represent a comprehensive showing for Australia's television industry at one of the world's leading television awards; winners take home statues known as Golden Nymphs.

Anzac Girls, which aired on the ABC, told the story of nurses working with the Australian Army Nursing Service at Gallipoli and the Western Front during World War I. It starred Anna McGahan, Caroline Craig and Georgia Flood.

Secrets & Lies, which aired on Ten, was produced by the Brisbane-headquartered production company Hoodlum, and starred Martin Henderson as a man suspected of killing a child and Anthony Hayes as the investigator convinced he did it.

Both programs are nominated in the miniseries category, against the critically acclaimed UK drama The Missing.‎

Secrets & Lies producer Tracey Robertson told Fairfax the team who worked on the series were "very excited" about the nomination.

"Monte Carlo is such a prestigious international event and to be recognised along with some outstanding television drama is truly a spectacular achievement," she said.

"The show was such a pleasure to make and our entire team are to thank for making such a great show."

Love Child, which airs on Nine, stars Jonathan LaPaglia, Mandy McElhinney and Ryan Corr. Produced by Playmaker Media it is set in a Kings Cross hospital in 1969.

Love Child is nominated in the best drama category, where it faces stiff competition in the form of the critically acclaimed US drama House of Cards.‎

One of the nominations - Rik Mayall's nomination for best actor in a comedy series - is posthumous; Mayall, who was a much-loved star on British television, died in 2014.

‎Laurent Puons​, the chief executive of the Monte-Carlo Television Festival, said the nominees represented "the best in international programming content".

The winners of the 55th annual Golden Nymph Awards will be announced at the Monte Carlo Television Festival in June.
