The five-year-old bay gelding kicked off his current campaign with 4.3 lengths ninth to Scoring in a 1010m Benchmark 50 handicap at Moruya on April 4.

Rush Indulgence settled at the rear of the field over the unsuitable distance but made very good ground in the run to the post.

“He’s pulled up really good after the run,” Gatty said.

“I’m very happy with him.

“He got a long way back at Moruya but hit the line well.

“Stepping up to 1400 metres should suit him a lot better. There’s been rain in our area and I just don’t want the track heavy. Soft is okay but not heavy.

“He’s a quiet easy going horse. A happy horse.”

Gatty operates from a private training property near the beaches and racecourse at Moruya.

Beach work is part and parcel of Rush Indulgence’s regime.

“He suffered a back injury last September,” Gatty said.

“He’s had a few niggles since and a lot of chiropractic work and down to the beach to keep him right.”

Rush Indulgence, by Bel Danoro out of Colour Therapy, was bred by Gatty who races the gelding with his wife Vicky.

Rush Indulgence is the second foal of Colour Therapy, a mare that had ability but suffered from injuries and won one from 18 with eight placing’s from 18 starts.

“Rush Indulgence was born and reared on the property,” Gatty said.

“The mare’s first foal was Bengello (five time winner) who I trained at one time.

“I’ve got another one out of the same mare who just won a Moruya trial by a big space.”

Rush Indulgence, with a record of three wins and a third from 22 starts and a second up winner previously, will be ridden by three kilo claimer Maddison Wright.

In early markets he is a $13 chance behind $4.50 favourite Balafre.
