Tuesday marks one month since Sharon Edwards, a 55-year-old primary school teacher from Coutts Crossing Public School, simply vanished after a night out with friends in Grafton.

Mrs Edwards would call her three adult sons regularly, just to chat and keep up to date with their lives, one of her sons, Zac, told Fairfax Media.

Since that night out on March 14, when she went to the Good Intent Hotel in Grafton with friends, they have not heard a word from their mother.

Police have revealed that they are treating Mrs Edwards' disappearance as a homicide, but her son Zac said his mother's body had not been found, and detectives had not divulged to the family why they had determined that Mrs Edwards was dead.

As police more than 1000 kilometres away discovered the burnt body of Ms Scott in the Cocoparra National Park near Griffith on Friday, Zac said he could not help but feel some small relief for the Scott family.

"It was pretty horrible, actually, seeing that," he said.

"I was sort of relieved when they actually found her. At least her family have got some of the answers that they want. They can start to deal with it. We're just sitting around still, not knowing how we feel.

"I know that she [his mother] is not coming back. But until you have proof, it's hard not to have that little bit of hope."

On March 14, the day she disappeared, Mrs Edwards had played an afternoon game of tennis at the Grafton City Tennis Club before heading to the hotel with friends.

She is believed to have then visited a friend's house before heading to her Riverdale Court home in Grafton, where her car was found parked in the driveway. The clothes that she had worn to the hotel that night were also believed to have been found in the house, but her handbag, mobile phone and wallet are missing.

It is understood that, while Mrs Edwards lived in the Grafton house, her estranged husband, John, often stayed at another of their properties in Lawrence, about 30 kilometres away.

During a public appeal for informaiton last month, John said it was "really out of character" for his wife to disappear.

"Someone out there must know some little something. I'm just racking my brains out going crazy," he said.

"We just love her and miss her so much."

Zac said his mother loved to smile, would regularly socialise with friends and was "really caring about everyone".

So excited was she about the arrival of her first grandchild, Harlow, that she would regularly visit her son's family in Brisbane just to babysit.

Harlow is due to celebrate her first birthday on Wednesday, and last weekend the family gathered to have an early birthday cake. There is no way the doting grandmother would have intentionally missed that event, Zac said.

"You should see her iPad or her computer. Every time I'd see mum, she'd just show me all of these new photos of her and Harlow," Zac said.

Asked if he knew of any reason for his mother's disappearance, Zac said he had "no idea".

"There's no reason I can think of why anyone would hurt her," he said.

"She's not the kind of person that would just take off. She was always keeping in contact. Every couple of days she'd give me a call at least. It's weird that she would just disappear and not tell anybody at all where she has gone."

At Coutts Crossing Public School, Mrs Edwards was heavily involved in extra-curricular activities, organising the school musical, eisteddfod and a school tennis tournament.

The school said in its latest newsletter that those events would still be going ahead as they waited for news about Mrs Edwards.

"We are all still staying positive for Mrs Edwards' safe return and have our fingers firmly crossed. Hopefully we'll have some good news next term," the newsletter said.
