Shaba the giraffe, from Mogo Zoo, was enroute to start a new life at the National Zoo and Aquarium in Canberra with his new girlfriend from Taronga Western Plains Zoo at Dubbo.
Heads turned on Tuesday as an oversized truck made its way through Batemans Bay and Braidwood, with Shaba’s head poking out the back.
Shaba, a Rothschild giraffe born at Mogo Zoo, is three-and-a-half years old.
Mogo Zoo is a leader in the breeding program of Rothschild giraffes in Australia.
A spokeswoman from the zoo said Shaba was “a lovable character and will be missed by his keepers and all at Mogo Zoo”.
