“This year we are going to use the old approach of attempting to door-knock the whole area again,” Captain Ross Holland said.
“We want to door-knock the Eurobodalla Shire, so we are going to need many, many volunteers.”
The Batemans Bay corps has Apple Marketing helping out and this organisation will be recruiting volunteers in the likes of Potato Point, Narooma, Nelligen and Araluen, while the Batemans Bay Corps staff will recruit them in Batemans Bay, Moruya, Tuross Head and Bodalla themselves.
“We want to make sure everywhere is done and that everyone gets an opportunity to donate, Captain Holland said.
Last year’s appeal only raised $11,800, well short of the $34,000 target.
Captain Holland believes the need for the funds the Red Shield Appeal raises is as strong as ever.
“The Salvos help someone in Australia every 31 seconds,” he said.
“We are helping so many people so often, but we are seeing less government funding, and relying more on public donations.
“Federal government budget cuts have resulted in a steady flow of people from a wide ranging demographic asking for assistance, and we don’t want to turn people away, we really don’t.”
Captain Holland is confident the people of Eurobodalla will support the appeal as volunteers and donors.
“This community really supports the Salvation Army, and we really appreciate that,” he said.
The Red Shield Appeal will be held over the weekend of May 30 and 31 and if you would like to register as a volunteer collector or make a donation, go to www.salvos.org.au and click on the Red Shield Appeal Link.
