After 15 rounds of play, from 40 teams across four divisions in the Eurobodalla, the top four teams from each division qualified for the semi-finals played out on Saturday morning.
Winners from these then progressed to the grand final in the afternoon.
Division four’s grand final, using modified low compression balls and shorter scoring format, had the Bay Orcas’ Tyne Porteous, Emma Penperthy against the Bay Manors’ Hugh Tuckwell, Douglas D’Amico and Lucas Last.
The Orcas were the dominant team of the competition and continued that form into the final, winning convincingly.
The player of the final was D’Amico.
The Bay Firecrackers’ Samantha and Gemma Ferguson took on arch-rivals Broulee Venom with Rusty Miller, Aaron Barnes and Nick Hogg.
The Firecrackers had not lost a game in the regular competition to the Venom and both were the top two teams after 15 rounds.
The girls won the opening doubles in a tight tie breaker but the Venom fought back with tough wins in the two singles matches.
Broulee closed out the match in the remaining doubles match and Miller was the player of the finals.
The Moruya Wreckaz’s Jayden Seddon, Reece Walker and Billy Irwin took serve against the minor premiers Moruya Machines’ Issac Wright, Jade Haberland and Ael Hennequin.
The Wreckaz got off to a flying start with “booming serves and sharp net play”, winning the opening doubles and singles.
This made it a must win match for “pint-sized” Hennequin against the bigger Walker. After a long set with plenty of momentum changes, Walker won 7-5 in the breaker sealing the win for the Wreckaz.
Moruya Tennis Club coach Richard Sellick said it was an emotional trophy presentation for the Wreckaz.
“Jim Irwin, Billy’s father, collected his trophy which was quite emotional,” Sellick said.
The player of the finals was Seddon.
The Bay Grinders’ Lachlan Herring, Isaac Gorzolka and Lachlan Rowing were up against the Bay Young Guns’ Brock De Winter, Tyler Frawley and Scott Suter in the division one final.
The Young Guns took the opening doubles, but the Grinders fought back, winning the next two singles and remaining doubles in “emphatic style” to claim the premiership.
Frawley was the player of the finals.
There will be a short break before the winter competition is scheduled to start early in term two.
