UNITY Mining managing director Andrew McIllwain is urging the people to wait until the Environmental Assessment (EA) is released before making up their minds on proposed changes to the Dargues Gold Mine.

Mr McIllwain said community concerns were addressed in the detailed assessment, which had been submitted to the NSW Planning Department for review.
“All of the facts are clearly enunciated and discussed in the environmental assessment,” Mr McIllwain said.
“We have formally submitted that to the Department of Planning.
“They will now start their internal process and they expect that the EA will be up for public exhibition at the end of the month.
“My request is that people wait for the opportunity to look at the detail and the facts that we present in the EA, then they can make their assessment.”
Mr McIllwain said Unity Mining owned and was familiar with operating mines in sensitive environments.
“We do that with the support of the regulators in those states,” he said.
“As an example, our Henty mine is a cyanide facility that is well run and even the Minister for Environment in Tasmania has been flattering in his praise of our performance in the management of that project.
“People need to take some cognisance and recognise NSW is well regulated and the project will be built to the highest standards.”
