Eurobodalla Greens councillor Gabi Harding was MC and several other Greens representatives gave speeches at the event, including Greens NSW MLC Mehreen Faruqi, Greens candidate for Monaro Peter Marshall, Greens senate candidate Justin Field and Ms Perger.
Ms Perger was previously named as spokeswoman for the protest.
Despite the Greens theme, several speakers appealed to all candidates for the forthcoming state election to support their cause.
Protest co-organiser Sheila Monahan did not believe that having the protest labelled a Greens event would inhibit the chances of getting political opponents onside.
She hoped sitting MP Andrew Constance and Labor candidate Leanne Atkinson would hear the group’s concerns, despite them not being formally invited or asked to meet representatives.
“Seeing there are politicians and potential politicians here who see this as an important issue, (as) a real threat to our community, we’re hoping the sitting member might come and talk to us and show some concern,” Ms Monahan said.
“Likewise, the candidate for the Labor Party (Leanne Atkinson).
“We would love to hear from all of them, (about) what they might do about helping us to keep our river, water supply and economy safe.”
“Mr Constance is meant to represent his entire electorate.
“Not to take any notice of maybe the 50,000 people affected in his electorate and come and talk about their concerns – it would be pretty poor to say it’s a Greens issue.”
Ms Monahan said individuals had written letters to candidates and she encouraged more.
