Cooma Showgirl Holly McCosker and Goulburn Showgirl Bonnie Skinner will now go on to represent the region, which extends out to Crookwell, Tumut and Adelong and down to Bega, at the state finals at next month’s Sydney Royal Easter Show.
While Eurobodalla Showgirl Kelly Hull missed out on a representative placing, the Eurobodalla was still the clear winner after hosting a stellar event.
Showgirls and their friends and family from 12 districts, as well as representatives from the Agricultural Societies Council and The Land, 2014 Royal Showgirl Brodie Chester and ABC journalist Bronwyn Herbet, attended the night at the Moruya RSL Hall.
Each showgirl was interviewed on stage and the event included a sumptuous three-course meal prepared by the Eurobodalla District Show Society, which utilised local produce where possible.
Society secretary Kylie Green was pleased Moruya had the opportunity to host the zone finals, given that the shire had only revived its showgirl competition two years ago.
Nine kitchen staff, 10 waitresses and four barmen – all volunteers – worked hard to help make the night a success.
“It’s really good to be able to run an event of this calibre and to have such a dedicated show committee,” Mrs Green said.
“We did the whole thing and it’s all volunteers just trying to better our shire.”
Mrs Green said the event provided the opportunity to showcase the region as well as prove that it still had a strong agricultural industry.
“We have based our dessert around the dairy industry and we have tried to incorporate seafood into the entrée,” she said.
“It’s also an event that’s in a mid-season, and we’ve attracted 11 show societies from around the region who have booked tables of 10.
“The judges have never even been here before. They said it has been wonderful.”
Mrs Green said the society always welcomed new members.
She also praised the night’s sponsors for making the event possible.
