Eurobodalla Shire Council released a media statement on Thursday which said Unity Mining had advised the Dargues Creek Gold Mine Community Consultative Committee on Wednesday that it was deferring the release of its environmental assessment report for a proposed modification to its mining approval.
The release stated the company expected to "publicly exhibit the report sometime in April or May 2015".
However Mr McIllwain told the Bay Post/Moruya Examiner the document had been submitted to the NSW Department of Planning, who would release it once it had been reviewed.
"We have not deferred the EA," Mr McIllwain said.
"It was finally submitted last week and the Planning Department have indicated that their review and pre-exhibition process will mean that it is not up for public exhibition until the end of the month."
Once it is released by the Planning Department for public exhibition, Eurobodalla Shire Council will display copies of the report at each of the shire’s libraries to encourage community engagement.
