NSW Treasurer and Bega MP Andrew Constance launched the 2015 Commonwealth Bank Not-for-Profit Treasurers’ Awards on Tuesday.
He encouraged anyone involved in a not-for-profit community organisation to consider putting forward their treasurer for an award.
Each eligible treasurer nominated would receive a certificate.
“There are tens of thousands of community groups in NSW and each one is served by a treasurer, most of them working in a voluntary capacity for little recognition or reward,” Mr Constance said.
“Together, those groups are the engine room that helps to drive the social progress of this state.
“We couldn’t do without them.”
Treasurers in not-for-profit organisations can also contribute ideas to improve financial management and oversight.
The best three ideas will win $5,000 for their organisation, plus an iPad for themselves.
“It would be great to see at least one of those $5,000 prizes end up in NSW,” Mr Constance said.
The Treasurers’ Awards are an initiative of Our Community, one of Australia’s oldest social enterprises.
Our Community managing director Denis Moriarty said treasurers in the sector managed more than $100 billion nationwide.
“It is a sector that makes a positive contribution to the lives of millions, yet they receive little in return,” Mr Moriarty said.
“It’s our turn to give back.”
This is the fourth year the awards have been run.
Nominations close on April 10, 2015, with certificates dispatched and winners announced during Not-for-Profit Finance Week in May 2015.
