The show won the award for best musical, Candy Burgess won the best musical director award, Matt Burgess won the best actor in a musical award for his role as Daddy Warbucks and the Golden Cat award for outstanding achievement in set design, lighting and performance, and Sam Lloyd won the best costume designer award for a musical or variety show for her costumes for Annie.
Matt and Meg McCallum, one of the show’s two Annies, performed the show-stopping number “Something Was Missing” at the awards night.
It was a second success at the CAT awards for both Matt and Candy.
Candy won a Golden Cat five years ago and Matt won a technical achievement award for the Players’ Little Shop of Horrors in 2003.
Meanwhile, back in the Bay, Players’ members are hoping to see lots and lots of enthusiastic singers tonight, Wednesday, at the Playhouse in Gregory Street for the auditions of the mid-year production, Ruby Anniversary.
President Kath Joyce will host the auditions at 7pm and asks that those auditioning prepare a song, preferably from a Bay Theatre Players’ musical, either unaccompanied or with a CD of the music.
If anyone has any queries, phone Kath on 4472 2899.
In addition to “auditionees”, Kath will welcome potential new members, who, she says, will have an interesting introduction to the theatre.
The object of Ruby Anniversary is to mark the Players’ 40 years in the Bay by sharing with audiences some of the favourite songs from musical productions since the 1970s.
It will be in the tradition of the Players’ Broadway Tribute shows, which have all been well received by audiences.
