But boat numbers visiting to the island were limited because of the rough seas left over from the East Coast Low and a southerly wind is still blowing on Monday and set to continue for the rest of the week.
John Moore from Narooma Fishing Charters reported that live bait were hard to get at all the normal places on Sunday morning.
But they finally got about 20, and headed to the south end of Montague Island, finding the kings at the south side of the reef - total of around 40 kings landed of which 17 were legal.
Mick and Goran from Canberra and Mick and Sam from Narooma had a great session, one of those rare days when the kings wanted squid as well as live bait.
Skipper Nick Cowley on the charter Playstation also reported on Sunday that the kingfish are starting to be more consistent at Montague Island as the season progresses.
“His charter on Sunday resulted in good numbers of nice kingies, bringing back around 15 and releasing a few fish! Hopefully the good fishing continues at Montague!”
We hope so too Nick and now if the weather could just improve so those of us with smaller boats can get out there too!
