Chief executive officer of Variety the Children’s Charity (NSW), Tam Johnston, travelled from Sydney last Friday to meet with a working party of councillors and representatives of community group The Bay Push.
The meeting considered the merits of The Bay Push’s widely-circulated community business plan, for the development of the super-sized playground at Batehaven’s Corrigans Reserve.
The playground is designed to encourage increased all-ability tourism to the Shire, subsequently boosting commerce and an increase to employment in the youth sector.
Bega MP Andrew Constance allocated $100,000 to the project in December.
Bay Push spokesman Charles Stuart said Variety had given its support for the playground, going into partnership with The Bay Push.
He said Variety provided a fund-raising web page, where people can make tax-deductible donations to the playground, at https://varietyfundraising.everydayhero.com/au/the-bay-push.
Ms Johnston was delighted with the support expressed by the views of councillors present.
“I commend the Eurobodalla council on their vision for promoting the area as a holiday destination for those of all-abilities,” she said.
“Variety is committed to helping Australian children who need an extra hand in life. We are delighted to support projects like this that benefit all children, regardless of their abilities.
“This is a concept which has fantastic potential for the local community as well as providing families with high quality, accessible holiday options in the Bay.”
Bega MP Andrew Constance, recently announced a $100,000 grant for the project, under the NSW Government’s Community Grants Scheme.
The proposal to establish a steering community for community consultation and the playground’s design will be presented to the council at its February 25 meeting.
