The 13-year-old Carroll College student was selected after a three-day talent identification camp held at Maitland last year.
It was a fitting reward for the point guard who had an outstanding season for the Batemans Bay Breakers.
She was named the most valuable player in the Waratah Junior League final, was the top point scorer in the NSW Basketball State Shield final series and also joined the NSW Talented Athlete Program (TAP) held at the Sydney Academy of Sport and Recreation in Narrabeen, Sydney.
Blewitt played six games across the week and two games included opposition from New Zealand.
“It was really competitive and I wouldn’t say any game was easy,” Blewitt said.
“One of my best games was when we versed a team from New Zealand.”
Playing at the point meant Blewitt had to be a vocal leader on the court and her coach wanted her to keep an eye on the shot clock so her team wouldn’t have a violation and lose possession.
“I had to keep up on the time and call it out and I also had to run plays,” she said.
“The coaches were of a high level and really good to have.”
While having a few more demands placed on her by her coach, Blewitt had no problems executing what was asked.
“I kind of had confidence in myself to do it,” she said.
It wasn’t all competition and Blewitt said she had a great time hanging out with girls she had met at previous camps and she also made some new friends along the way.
“Being able to meet the New Zealanders and hearing their accent was good and they were really strong,” she said.
“I had played with some of my team and I knew some (girls) from other comps but I found it really fun and easy to fit in because all the girls were really nice.”
As part of the development tour the juniors also heard lectures on nutrition and sport science.
“Some of the stuff was new to me,” she said.
