ON Saturday, conditions were favourable for the Batemans Bay Sailing Club’s race-day and sailors were assisted by a 10 to 15 knot sea breeze.

Race officer Dave Magill and his crew aboard the committee boat Clarence the Clocker set a boat end-favoured start line for the seven yacht fleet.
Accolade, skippered by Lachlan Brown grabbed the boat end start.
Apostrophe came off the line fast with Rob Currall at the helm and she forced Accolade to tack away as it went for the favoured left-hand side of the course as the fleet sailed to the Yellow Rock mark.
Andrew Bain’s Wishful Thinking went hard left and rounded the top mark in the lead.
The next leg was a reach to the Tollgates mark followed by a broad reach down to Caseys Beach.
Accolade went hard left on the second work and caught the field near the top mark but then sustained an untimely tear across the top of the mainsail.
The next leg was a square run back to Caseys Beach which suited symmetrically-spinnakered boats such as Apostrophe and the mighty Xanthia skippered by James Gardiner.
Wishful Thinking got the better of Accolade with some clever gybing near the bottom mark.
Although by then Accolade was limping home with the mainsail nearly torn in two.
Avior with Tony Sutton and Robin Davey at the helm won the battle of the S80s over Hotspur, skippered by John Drummond, and was close to passing the much larger Attitude, skippered by Simon Byrne and John Reed in the process.
Apostrophe went on to get line honours and Xanthia continued her resurgence to win on PHS from Apostrophe and Avior.
On AMS calculations it was an easy win for Wishful Thinking ahead of Accolade and Apostrophe.
Last Friday the club held a Friday evening cruise on the Clyde River to introduce new people to sailing.
Unfortunately a large passing thunderstorm scared many away.
However, anyone interested in joining the club will always be able to go out for a sail.
Debbie Cockle will be coordinating new crew members for the BBSC keelboat fleet and Julie Phelps will be taking on the role for the off the beach fleet based at Coila Lake.
