Two waterspouts were also seen off Wallaga Lake between Narooma and Bermagui at the same time, based on comments to the Narooma News Facebook page.
Bermagui resident Kevin Facey than captured a large waterspout out in front of Bermagui, moving north.
Then Tathra resident Shane Babbington replied on his post that he'd seen multiple spouts at the mouth of the Bega River.
"I was just flicking lures down at the river entrance at tathra & there was 3 fully formed & 3-4 half formed spouts at one time. "
He said the spouts appeared to be moving north.
Kevin said the waterspout at Bermagui started just south of the town and ended just north.
"You could clearly see the sea water disturbance and I don't think it was as far as the 12 mile."
A Bermagui charter skipper was out near it only 1 or 2 miles away, he said.
Original report:
FISHING boats were amazed to see two waterspouts forming at the area known as “The Kink” on the Continental Shelf off Narooma.
Deckhand Matt Betts on the charter boat The Sheriff sent us a couple of great photos of the waterspouts.
The waterspouts obviously didn't cause any damage as they were 20km out to sea.
Matt said they decided to move away from the one larger, closer spout once it touched down.
This latest sighting of waterspouts comes after a series of five waterspouts was spotted travelling between Wallaga Lake and Bermagui back in August, as well as a mini-tornado at Fairhaven.
Back then, Narooma High School student Nadine Hunter spotted and photographed several waterspouts on the ocean off Wallaga Lake and also on the lake itself.
"The Year 12 student said she spotted the water spouts while on the school bus at 3.50pm and there was also a miniature tornado at Fairhaven when one of the spouts made landfall."
