On January 19 the boys had a four-hour wait before they could tee-off as heavy rain soaked the course.
The team drew Grafton and had to push through the best part of an hour of rain during the match.
At the end of play it looked like Grafton had a comprehensive 5.5 to .5 win, however, the matches were much closer as two games were decided on the 18th hole and two on the 17th.
Naturally the boys were disappointed with the result, but team manager Ron Ingram, junior promotions officer Ray Carnall and Moruya Golf Club captain Ian Smith were full of praise for the way the boys played and conducted themselves.
“They all tried their hardest,” Smith said.
“The conditions were very difficult and considering they played on a course they hadn’t seen before, I am extremely proud of the whole team.”
Smith praised the club and the boys’ parents for their support throughout the year.
“It is a great achievement for them to make the finals and they have done better than any team from Moruya in the past,” he said.
The Moruya juniors have all graduated from the Kookaburra program run by Ray Carnall and Moruya Golf Club’s professional Rob Green each Wednesday afternoon.
“Ray and Rob are so generous with their time and it is really pleasing to see all their hard work produce such a great result,” he said.
“The Kookaburras are always looking for more boys and girls to try out the program and we would welcome anyone interested in joining the group.”
