THE Batemans Bay Cricket Club's first grade team fought hard in the field all afternoon and has set up a chance to take first innings points against Bay and Basin at Sanctuary Point Oval.

On Saturday, the visitors won the toss and sent the home side in to bat and it paid dividends early when Andrew Woolfe (0) was caught by Marc Stiller off Ryan Chamberlain to be 1/1.
Bay and Basin opener Jonathon Hill was joined by Brandon Lamb and the pair batted methodically and grinded away against the Bay’s bowlers.
The pair put on an 82-run stand and then Stiller bowled Lamb (33) to have Bay and Basin at 2/83.
Left-arm spinner David West struck a run later and dismissed Adam Kempt (0) to a well held catch by wicketkeeper Greg McDonald and Bay and Basin were 3/84.
Hill held down one end but his fellow batsmen struggled to stay at the crease as West, Chamberlain, Andrew Malcolm and Tim Hartshorn each removed a middle order batsman to have the home side reeling at 7/111.
Lower-order batter Braedon Shears (27) combined with Hill (71) and the pair put together a stubborn 47-run partnership before West and Stiller struck again to end the home side’s innings at 9/158 from 74.2 overs.
West finished with innings best figures of 3/24 from 13 overs and opening bowlers Stiller (2/22 from 18) and Chamberlain (2/22 from 14) were Batemans Bay’s other multiple wicket-takers.
Play resumes at 1pm next Saturday and Batemans Bay will be hoping to put together a composed batting performance to take the game on first innings points.
