“We are de-cluttering” said a Bay Theatre Players (BTP) member last weekend at the second of several working bees at the BTP Gregory Street Playhouse.

The group is taking advantage of the 2015 program of only two shows – the first not until the middle of the year – to redecorate, refurbish, renovate, but most importantly de-clutter the Playhouse and associated facilities.
Jobs included testing and sorting power tools, sorting out tins of paint, refurbishing the theatre seating, and even sealing stormwater pipes, a problem made very apparent by the area’s recent heavy downpours.
Those same downpours also brought flooding to the theatre foyer, which required a serious drying-out operation running in tandem with the working bees.
The three and sometimes four shows a year over 10 years in the Playhouse has taken its toll on the facilities.
It seems that theatre people are, by nature, hoarders, and this, coupled with the fact that there has seldom been time to properly catalogue, inventory and cull when a show has finished and before the next one begins, has led to the current problem.
The first rubbish skip was filled in just two days and another will arrive this week.
The end result should be a much less cluttered environment and an enhanced ability to develop and build a production efficiently.
