“The Bay needs somewhere to go,” she said.
“Especially if you want to celebrate something special, and have a fun night out.”
On the last Friday of each month in Batemans Bay, and Saturday in Moruya, a different comedian will hit the stage.
January will see Australia’s Got Talent’s Sam McCool, while February will feature Kath and Kim impersonators, the Foxy Hornbags, with Mrs Haberley as Kim.
March will feature comedian tough-girl Julia Wilson.
Despite the acts not being particularly well-known, Mrs Haberley assures locals that laughs will not be scarce.
“They’re not quite ‘famous famous’, but they are really funny,” she said.
Mrs Haberley has been involved in the comedy scene since 2000, after being spotted by an agent at Raw Comedy.
“I was a singer from when I was 17, and I could never remember any of the words to the songs so I made up my own, with funny words,” she said.
Mrs Haberley, who works as a massage therapist by day at Bayside Therapies, wants to encourage locals to get involved and support the event.
“I just want people to think outside the box — get youth in the area to think a bit bigger,” she said.
“It’s a really good career, and I think if some young people around here got into it, it could change their world.”
The comedy nights will include an open mic segment, which will be judged by the audience and winners will receive a small prize.
Mrs Haberley urges anyone interested to get in contact in order to secure their spot.
“We might unearth the next big thing,” she said.
Mrs Haberley is also seeking local charities to support. January’s events support the RSPCA.
The Friday comedy night will be held at the Starfish Deli, with tickets including all-you-can-eat gourmet pizzas for $49 per person.
Saturday’s event, at Moruya Golf Club, costs $29 per person, which includes a $5 donation to the RSPCA.
Tickets are available at the Moruya Golf Club, and Bayside Therapies.
