By the way, I am in no way connected with HuntFest. Your statement that the Shooters and Fishers and Gundeals websites encouraged hunters from all over Australia to support the sale of guns at the Narooma Huntfest, I find a tad hypocritical.
The first info I found about HuntFest on my computer showed a group of protesting anti gun people on the steps of our council building, claiming that they had 40,000 signatures on a petition against the HuntFest.
This incredible number was revealed to have been collected internationally. Some of these people on the petition possibly would not even know where Australia is!
The gun ownership laws in Australia are very strict and complicated. You can not just buy a firearm over the counter. If you pass a long list of checks and conditions, you are legally allowed to own a firearm.
Since the total number of submissions was less than 500, this tells me the majority of residents had no concerns.
Just looking at a firearm will not turn you into a mass murdering nutcase.
Please leave the firearm owners alone to use their firearms for the legitimate purposes that they are licensed for.
I am writing this letter the morning after the Martin Place siege tragedy.
This act of terrorism could possibly been stopped by not letting this madman out on bail.
His firearm, a pump action shotgun, has not been legal in Australia for some years.
Only more action against the criminals in our society can prevent such tragedies.
Stop picking on legal firearm owners.
