FIFTEEN more people will have access to aged care services in Broulee, thanks to a federal government grant.
Five new aged care places in residential facilities and 10 new home care packages will be delivered to Broulee after the funding was announced on Tuesday.
The additional five places at Banksia Village in Broulee is part of 25 new aged care places being delivered across Eden Monaro.
The estimated cost of the five Banksia Village rooms is $295,000 and the 10 home care packages are worth $232,000.
Banksia Village CEO Graham Wise said he was delighted with the result.
“This brings the total number of provisional places to 30,” he said.
“The increase in provisional places was significant as it supports the business case for the extension to the residential aged care facility, the Lodge.”
Banksia has also received a grant for home care packages.
Mr Wise said Banksia had been trying to secure home care packages for more than 10 years.
“Competition for the home care packages was intense this year with more than 100,000 applications being lodged and only 6653 ultimately being awarded,” he said.
“These packages will allow Banksia to expand its services and deliver care direct to residents’ homes.
“This is a great result for the organisation and the community.
“Banksia will seek to rollout its home care services by mid-2015.”
He praised former CEO Phil Armstrong and deputy CEO Jenny Symons for their work achieving the result.
Member for Eden Monaro Peter Hendy said he was pleased the new aged care places would help meet the growing aged care needs.
