Controversial new traffic lights proposed for the intersection of North and Perry streets in Batemans Bay will become a reality by the end of June 2015.

The news comes after Eurobodalla Shire Council accepted $200,000 for the project from NSW Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) earlier this month.
The lights were endorsed by council in August. Council says they will improve the safety of the busy intersection which is crossed by around 780 people and 730 vehicles in the middle of a spring day and significantly more during summer.
Mayor Lindsay Brown says the proposal has had the support of RMS since an independent consultant recommended the installation of traffic lights to address the intersection’s pedestrian safety issues in the 2010 Batemans Bay Traffic and Transport Study.
"I’d like to thank the RMS for its commitment to this project from start to finish. We are very grateful for the funding," Cr Brown said.
"Council can now progress its plans to install the traffic lights this financial year and help everyone safely cross the intersection, especially people with disability, the elderly and people with young children and prams."
Cr Brown said council planned to send a letter to the Batemans Bay Chamber of Commerce and businesses in the CBD area to let them know the latest news.
"We will also be providing an update to the local community members who took the time to make a submission when the proposal was on public exhibition in March, and to Council’s Disability Advisory Committee and the local police which supported the traffic lights proposal," Cr Brown said.
