CHRISTMAS Day 2014 was always going to be a tough one for the Fryer family after losing 20-year-old Kaileigh in car accident in April.
However, thanks to an item on her bucket list, which was distributed at her funeral and inspired a Facebook page which has 9900 members all over the world, it will be a memorable day for good reasons.
Item 44 on Kaileigh’s bucket list was to “host a Christmas dinner for the homeless”, so on Christmas Day Michelle Fryer and daughters, Stacey (24), Christie (11) and Courtney (13), and six of their relatives will volunteer on Christmas Day at the Exodus Foundation in Ashfield, Sydney.
The Foundation is run by the Reverend Bill Crews, will feed about 4000 people on Christmas Day.
“It wasn’t going to be a real Christmas for us so we want it to be dedicated to this part of the list,” Michelle Fryer said.
The Fryers have had special shirts made for the day, featuring Kaileigh’s image on the back and an item 44 motif on the front. Mr Crews has given them permission to wear these rather than the usual green volunteer shirts.
“He is an amazing man,” Mrs Fryer said.
The Fryers will be serving and helping from 8.30am to 6pm. Mrs Fryer said her daughters were “very excited” about what they would be doing on Christmas Day.
“They are happy to be spending the day making other people happy,” she said.
