Council’s latest call for a special rate variation stirs reactions from many readers who normally remain silent.
Silence is smugly adopted as endorsement, or approval, by council’s self-assured decision-makers.
Big government is telling us there is insufficient money to do what it promised to do, that everyone must share the pain and budgets are being slashed.
Even our ABC is being told corporations that can’t find annual savings of five per cent simply require better managers.
Five per cent improvement in our council’s productivity would eliminate the need for a special rate increase.
With improved productivity, residents should enjoy seeing what a well-managed, highly motivated, enthusiastic team of 450-or-so council staff can really achieve for their community with council’s existing $100 million budget.
Rather than a special rate variation it is past time for the shire to oil its hinges, to open its tightly closed door to “can do” managers with the energy and skill required to advance the Eurobodalla’s superb natural attractions and advantages.
