Seventy-five students from Batemans Bay High School and St Peter’s Anglican College took part in university faculty taster sessions to get a feel for what life could be like after school.
The day kicked off with current university students sharing their pathway and university experience with the students.
University of Wollongong Batemans Bay campus community engagement coordinator Kerryn Hopkins said the day was about building the students’ aspirations.
“It is to inform some of the decisions they make in their study plans and patterns throughout the HSC,” she said.
“The sessions give students a glimpse of what it is like to study law or a science degree for example.
“We try and make most of the sessions as interactive and hands on as possible.”
University of Wollongong outreach and pathways manager Kylie Austin said since the In2Uni program started in 2011 it was expanded to include students from year six through to year 12.
“This is the first time we have engaged with our year 10 cohorts,” she said.
“Next year will be our largest intake of In2Uni students going onto university.
“We are seeing some great success with the program, especially with students who may have high aspirations but need some assistance in their attainment levels to get to university.”
Throughout the day students participated in science, education, nursing, law and business sessions.
