Despite hopes more than 150 people would attend the event at the Coachhouse Marina Resort, the crowd of 60 listened intently to what Dr Carter had to say.
Organised by Surf Beach resident Neville Hughes, the presentation described the Whitehead and Associates report, used by Eurobodalla Shire Council to develop a sea-level rise benchmark, as “scientifically weak”.
“It is very hard to give them any credibility,” Dr Carter said.
A scientist, author of two books on climate change and self-declared “climate change sceptic”, Dr Carter said he believed Eurobodalla Shire Council was not doing scientific due diligence.
“What I am going to say tonight is not going to help you with your problem because it is a political problem,” he said.
During a Q&A session at the end of Dr Carter’s presentation, people in attendance were given the opportunity to question the source of the information presented and seek clarification on other issues surrounding sea-level rise.
