The National Rugby League’s (NRL) junior development kids’ league tag and touch footy program started with up to 70 eight to 16 year olds taking part.
Organiser Jeff Cox was rapt in the atmosphere at the first event.
“It was great to see a couple of the dads joining in with the 14 and 15 year olds, showing them how they used to do it when they were younger,” Cox said.
“There were some outstanding girls in the under 12 and 13 ages, and a lot of new faces in the under 9 and 10 ages.”
Registrations for the program remain open until Christmas and children can join in the activities 6pm each Thursday at Mackay Park.
Registration costs $20 and the games will be running until March.
Cox encouraged boys and girls to come along.
“New players, both boys and girls of all ages, particularly 14, 15 and 16 year olds, are very welcome,” Cox said.
