After losing the toss and being sent in to bat, the Bay lost Jack Gallen (8) early after popping up a catch, then soon after Mackenzie Clack was caught and bowled by Chantelle Downey on nought, leaving the Bay struggling at 2/9.

Ben Wiggins joined Tyler Kariotis at the crease and the pair batted sensibly and took the score to 30 when Kariotis was caught by Justin Rumble for 13, with the Bay at 3/30 and looking shaky. 

Paul Bishop joined Wiggins and they attacked Nowra’s bowlers to shore up the innings.

Both retired after the 20th over, each on 26 to put Batemans Bay in a good position.

Bishop smacked five boundaries in his best innings for the season.

Sean Griffin and Lachlan Knight then continued on the foundations laid by Wiggins and Bishop, and remained undefeated on 16 and 17 respectively, before retiring at the 26th over. 

Charlie Valentini (9 not out), Dylan Art (3) and Austin Reid (2 not out) carried the Bay to a respectable score of 4/147 at the end of the allotted 30 overs.

Nowra had to score at almost five runs an over but started poorly as Clack opened the bowling and found the edge of Matthew Trewin’s bat. 

Gallen was wearing the gloves and held on to the catch to have Nowra at 1/7. 

Rumble and James Beale led Nowra past the half-century mark, keeping Wiggins (0/10) and Griffin (0/6) wicket less.

Angus Skipper (1/7) scored the vital breakthrough, dismissing Beale, to a catch by Gallen. 

Austin Reid (1/10) snared the pivotal wicket of Rumble (31) to yet another catch by Gallen shortly after to have Nowra 3/64.

Wickets then began falling regularly to a range of Batemans Bay bowlers before the match was won with Nowra all out on 94 after 26 overs.

Gallen starred in the field with five catches and stumping while Kariotis (2/1), Bishop (2/6) and Dylan Art (2/20) were the Bay’s multiple wicket takers. 

The under 14s team has been able to climb the Shoalhaven District Cricket Association ladder after comfortable wins in its past two games.

This Saturday the Bay takes on Berry-Shoalhaven Heads in another one-day clash at Hanging Rock, with the first ball bowled at 8am.
