The club came home leading two divisions, the under 23 women’s and under 19s men’s, while the under 23 men’s crew was unlucky it was not comfortably perched in second.
The under 19s men’s crew, Sum Won Wang, made up of Robbie Hogg, Sam Bailey, Justin Louttit, Keiran O’Fee and sweep Rob Pollock, added to its win at Corrimal a fortnight ago, by winning the first round of the ASRL.
The boys won two firsts, a second and a third to finish ahead of Austinmer and Moruya.
“The boys are a new crew and are getting better each week,” Pollock said.
“They still have so much improvement and will only get better.”
The under 23s women’s crew, Sum Ting Wong, is made up of Alisha Meek, Grace Brooks, Kate Chesher and Taylah Connaughton with Pollock at sweep.
It was the second time the crew hit the water this season after beating the small field in the open women’s race at the Far South Coast branch carnival at Malua Bay.
The crew had two wins and two seconds, which placed them narrowly ahead of Austinmer and Elouera.
“The girls have also had two previous marathon wins and are on track for a great year,” Pollock said.
The under 23s men’s team, Dim Sims, was NSW representative last year in the under 19s division and started well on Saturday, considering its slow preparation.
The crew of Jack Dunn, Ewen Pollock, Hayden Connor, Jeffrey Gamble and Rob Pollock pushed through the heats to qualify for the semi-finals.
The crew won its semi-final but signs of fatigue crept in.
In the final the crew started well but clashed oars with Windang which proved costly.
The Dim Sims recovered and led the crew to the buoys but by the turn Bilgola had surged to first.
Broulee was unable to catch a runner on the way in and was passed by Bulli and Corrimal in the last quarter to relegate it to fifth.
Broulee’s reserve crew, Who Wang, with Ryan Pollock, Hugo Dutiot, Jeff Dunn from the ACT, Roy Booker, Rolly Halligan and Hayden Connor backing up from the under 23s, performed well but failed to make the semi-finals.
“It was a fantastic club effort with our first row for the reserve crew,” Pollock said.
Round two of ASRL NSW selection series is on December 20 at North Cronulla while Broulee will host the second round of the South Coast
Boat Series on Saturday, December 6.
