Mr Walters attended a meeting with Tim Archer, chief of staff for Family and Community Services minister Gabrielle Upton, and Bega MP Andrew Constance in Sydney on October 22.
The meeting had been arranged by Mr Constance.
“We got a good hearing from them,” Mr Walters said.
Community Life runs emergency accommodation facilities Hope Place at Caseys Beach and Hope House at Batemans Bay.
“We told them that since it opened (in 2013), Hope Place has accommodated 303 people, including 85 children, and looked after 40 people a night. I said I was surprised at the number of families we had looked after. They said they appreciated what we did and wanted to help us.”
However, he said he had not heard from them about whether or not funding will become available.
“I have emailed Mr Archer and not heard back,” he said.
“The meeting was on October 22 and it is now the third week in November and we still don’t know.”
Ms Upton’s office did not respond to the Bay Post/Moruya Examiner’s enquiries in time for publication.
Meanwhile, Community Life Batemans Bay is looking for a new CEO.
“Liz Rankin was CEO and had to step down for health reasons, and we had a temporary CEO in Kerry Bugden who has finished her time,” Mr Walters said.
“We need to get someone permanent which will give us some certainty, and this will help in getting funding.”
