The Bay Post/Moruya Examiner asked seven young people their thoughts on the needs of youth in the shire.
It comes after Eurobodalla Shire Council launched its youth survey this week, seeking feedback from residents aged 12 to 25 about issues important to them.
When asked what the most important issue was in the Eurobodalla, 16-year-old Jayde Hopkins, of Surf Beach, didn’t miss a beat.
“Public transport,” he said.
“We have a right to get around and be where we need to be.”
Jayde welcomed the survey, adding it would “get a voice from the community and help improve public transport”.
Sixteen-year-old Casey Evans from Catalina was more concerned about entertainment for young people.
“We need more skate parks and festivals to express ourselves,” she said.
The Bay Post/Moruya Examiner surveyed a further five people on the streets on Batemans Bay on Wednesday; three cited entertainment as the biggest issue and two education.
Mayor Lindsay Brown said the results from council’s survey would inform the 2015-2020 Eurobodalla Youth Strategy, which will guide the council’s youth services over the next five years.
“We want your opinion on things like public transport, recreation, education and work opportunities,” Cr Brown said.
“This is a great way to let us know about issues that are important to you.”
The survey is available on the council’s website www.esc.nsw.gov.au and closes December 13, 2014.
