The Pirates were able to field an unchanged side for the first time this season and elected to bat after it won the toss.
Despite losing an early wicket with the score at 29, the Pirates’ two 18-year-old batsmen, Daniel Alderton and Schaefer, continued to bat aggressively.
The pair combined for 172 runs before Alderton was dismissed for a well-made 66.
Schaefer continued to dispatch the bowlers to all parts of the ground until his innings, and Southern Eurobodalla’s, was ended after 40 overs on 5/304.
Schaefer’s score of 163 not out was the second highest total for the club, only being eclipsed by Paul Stokes’ 221 about 15 years ago.
The Pirates started well with the ball as Jay Walpole took the first wicket before a single run was on the scoreboard.
Eric McMahon (1/8), John Murray (2/8), David Moran (1/8) and Matt Klose (3/20) made short work of the Bega/Angledale innings to wrap it up for a total of 115.
Next weekend, the Pirates play Bermagui in a local derby at Dalmeny Oval.
The Southern Eurobodalla Pirates C grade side snatched victory against Eden on Saturday.
The Pirates batted first and amassed a total of 3/244 from 40 overs with Tony White (69 not out) and Scott Sullivan (55) compiling a half-century each.
Steve Benic (33), Boyd Brennan (23) and young gun Teddy Turner (19) added valuable runs to the Pirates’ total.
In reply, Eden was coasting after the Pirates’ slopped fielding gave it confidence.
The match turned when the father and son combination of Boyd (3/36) and Lachlan Brennan (2/31) cleaned up Eden’s innings, giving the Pirates a 17-run win.
The win was a much-needed morale boost for the Pirates C grade team and the club hopes it can continue its form with a full-squad this weekend.
