The Moruya boys had mixed fortunes winning three of six match ups.
Stever Mercer won 3 and 2, Josh Maloney won 1up and Cody Kirkwood won 3 and 2 while Riley Brown lost 4 and 3, Ivan Mylott lost 3 and 2 and Lachlan Ingram lost 2 and 1.
The draw forced a sudden death playoff between each team’s low marker.
Moruya’s captain, Ingram, prevailed on the first hole off the playoff to seal his team’s win.
Moruya Golf Club captain Ian Smith said he was proud of the boys of the boys’ achievements.
“It was really close, I think the parents and officials from both sides were extremely nervous but young Lachlan kept a cool head and played the first extra hole with a maturity beyond his years,” Smith said.
“I am really very happy for the boys, they conducted themselves in such a manner that the club can be very proud of and the same can also be said for the Yowani players.
The boys beat an Illawarra composite side in order to qualify for Sunday’s match and now go on to play in Newcastle in January along with the three other top sides in the state.
“I only hope that our success will encourage more juniors, particularly girls to take up the sport, not only at Moruya but at other clubs throughout the district,” Smith said.
