After a 20-year break, the fundraising event was revived by Moruya Surf Life Saving Club in 2012 and long-time Moruya resident Scott Downey will be one of many past runners who will tackle the event.
Downey ran in the original fun run “half a dozen times” throughout the 1980s and the resurrection of the event has allowed the next generation to join.
“It used to be a historic event and it was fun, we just ran because we were kids,” Downey said.
His three children, Adam, Ryan and Lily, who ran last year, will be back again.
“I did it when I was Adam’s age, it’s a flash of déjà vu I suppose,” he said.
Downey said it was easy to convince his children to enter - all he did was ask if they wanted to do a traditional fun run.
“They are just active kids, a bit like me as they won’t sit still for long and they said yes,” he said.
Downey predicted the event to grow from last year and praised organisers for reviving the run.
“It’s great for Moruya, it’s a solid town and it’s fantastic to have an old tradition back again,” he said.
“Tracey Pike did a lot of effort to get the ball rolling again.”
The run begins at 9am at Riverside Park, and runners will travel along South Head Road, up Anchorage Hill and then along the estuary to finish at Moruya SLSC clubhouse.
Entry categories range from boys and girls under 13s through to men’s and women’s over 60s.
To enter, visit a link on the club’s website at http://www.moruyasurf.org.au/ or pick up a form from The Rustic Pantry in Moruya.
Entries on the day will incur a $5 late entry fee.
