Last week the Bay totalled 231 against Shoalhaven after 69.2 overs and Ex-Servicemen’s went into stumps 0/9.
Shoalhaven started well on Saturday surviving the first hour without the loss of a wicket before Andrew Malcolm knocked George Dickie’s (33) stumps out of the ground.
Shoalhaven was 1/93 when Shaun Lloyd’s full, skidding delivery hit the visitor’s captain, Simon Blizzard, on the front pad and removed him for seven.
Shoalhaven’s top-scorer Warren Ganderton entered next and was able to support opener Chris Apps (62).
The pair brought the score to 132, 100 runs short of first innings points.
Malcolm then nabbed his second wicket and bowled Chris Apps.
Chad Pickett picked up the next two wickets with his smooth right arm off-spin and Shoalhaven were 5/173.
The under strength Shoalhaven –only nine batsmen available- were close to victory, adding 38 more runs before Mark Reidy dismissed Dean Jones (7).
At Jones’ fall Batemans Bay had 10 runs to defend and two wickets to take, similar to Australia’s
position against Pakistan where Glenn Maxwell bowled a two-wicket maiden over to win the match.
Ganderton (81) was Shoalhaven’s last hope and came close to stealing first innings points for his team but a well-held catch by Lloyd off Reidy’s bowling ended his innings.
Reidy removed Ashley Conner for nought and Batemans Bay had secured first innings points by three runs.
To finish off the match Batemans Bay batted for 11 overs and captain Brett Woolridge scored 21 before he was dismissed.
Reidy was the best of the Bay’s batsmen in the second innings with 44 runs, including three fours and one six.
Batemans Bay play Berry-Shoalhaven Heads in their next two-day match beginning next Saturday at the Berry Sporting Complex.
