As management defends its decision to cancel karaoke, an eyewitness to Friday night's violence at a Malua Bay club says the offenders brandished a large knife and a hammer.

The witness, who did not wish to be named, said the men forced 150 people to shelter inside the Malua Bay Bowling and Recreation Club during a violent disturbance.
Police seized knives from two ACT men after the incident and the offenders have been charged with criminal weapons offences.
They are also investigating an assault and damage to a glass panel.
The witness said it was “something out of a movie.”
“One of them had a knife between eight and 12 inches long and the other one had a hammer,” he said.
“They were threatening people and trying to get in the front door.
"They then went around to the deck.
"Security got all the people in and kept the people inside.”
The witness said there were about 150 people at the club at the time.
A Far South Coast Local Area Command police officer said a 26-year-old man and 29-year-old man from the ACT were searched.
Both had knives seized. They will receive criminal infringements for custody of a knife in a public place.
The incident has put an end to the Malua Bay Bowling and Recreation Club's weekly karaoke night, sparking an outcry on social media, including a Facebook page: Bring Back "Burgo's Karaoke" At Malua Bay Bowling Club!
However, club manager Glen Rice said the incident was not a one-off, and he had no choice but to cancel the weekly karaoke night.
He said anti-social behaviour had been getting progressively worse at the club over the past two months.
Peter Burgess, of Burgo's Karaoke, said club management told him on Monday morning, October 20, that the karaoke night, held every Friday at the club for seven years, had been cancelled due to last Friday's incident.
Mr Burgess said he had received many messages of support since the cancellation and he understood the club's action.
