The following morning Southern looked dominant against Metro Far North and challenged the goals more than 10 times throughout the game.
In the final two minutes Southern was caught off-guard and Metro Far North nabbed a narrow 1-nil win.
In the afternoon Southern played a tough, physical nil-all draw against Metro North.
Last Wednesday, Southern nabbed two 1-nil wins against Country Riverina and Country Western.
Talia Westley scored against Riverina while Johnson scored against Western.
The following day Southern lost 4-1 to Metro Far South and 3-nil to Metro West but it did not stop the girls winning the country title.
Team manager Jodi Johnson said the girls gave it their all through the week and thoroughly deserved their result.
“Considering their exhaustion and injury status the Southern girls made us proud,” Johnson said.
“Despite our losses the girls won the Country Cup for the second year running.
“You really are diamonds.”
