Batemans Bay’s Angela Funnell and Belinda Forrest - two long-term Bulldogs fans - and their friends, are taking their families to Homebush to watch ‘The Family Club’ tackle the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Funnell, who owns a Bulldog named Arnold and whose children support the Bulldogs, hoped her side could upstage the favourites to earn bragging rights at home.
Her husband Jason supports the Bulldogs are rivals, the Parramatta Eels.
“Everyone will be against us, you either love or you hate the Bulldogs,” Funnell said.
She hopes Canterbury can continue its dream run in the finals and go one better than 2012.
“We are the underdogs,” she said.
“Nobody expected us to win the past three weeks.”
Funnell and Forrest attributed their Bulldogs support to older family members.
“My dad grew up in Bankstown and went to school there,” Funnell said.
“My husband’s pop was a Bulldogs fan,” Forrest said.
Forrest and her children will be backing up after they watched the Bulldogs hold off Penrith in the preliminary final.
The appeal of the grand final led her to buy tickets a few weeks ago, well before the Bulldogs booked a spot.
“I thought it would be good for the boys because of the atmosphere,” she said.
Lachlan King and William Taylor were two youngsters keen to watch the Bulldogs make amends for the 2012 grand final loss against the Storm.
King, who has been a fan since he watched his first game with his dad, believed his favourite player, Trent Hodkinson, would lead the side well on the game’s biggest stage.
“He’s a great halfback, a good tackler and he helped the Blues win this year,” Lachlan said.
William said the club’s run in the finals was his favourite Bulldogs memory.
“They came seventh and made it to the grand final which is special,” he said.
