Children aged seven to 14 will hit the waves, spot rips and burn up the sand in races on Sunday mornings at Broulee or at carnivals throughout the season.
Broulee’s age manager David Hosking encouraged children to take up the challenge and develop their surf life saving skills.
“Nippers is about learning skills, building confidence and having fun in a supervised and safe beach environment,” Hosking said.
“For Nippers, the beach is the classroom and they thrive by testing themselves in swimming, board paddling and beach sprinting.”
Broulee hoped to build on its “record” numbers it drew last season.
“Last year well over 100 kids were on the beach on Sunday mornings,” Surf Sports and Nippers coordinator Scott Elliott said.
Elliott said the club hoped to retain its junior and senior Far South Coast branch titles and a competitive Nippers group would help.
“We have carnivals at Bermagui, Pambula and Broulee this season and we also have the NSW Country Championships at Mollymook again and we are planning to have a big team compete there,” Elliott said.
The club is holding its pool assessment at Moruya Pool on Saturday, October 11 at 10am, and there will be an information evening for parents who could get involved at the clubhouse on October 15.
“We are always looking for parents to get involved as officials or help the age managers at the carnivals,” Hosking said.
“I had no involvement in surf life saving four years ago.
“Now I have my bronze medallion, participate in patrols as well as looking after my daughters Nippers age group on the weekend.
“I love it.”
The first beach session will be held at the Broulee Surfers Surf Life Saving club on October 26 at 10am.
