“It should be a formality to have Group Seven approve the request so the Tigers can move forward in their preparations for 2015,” club president Bob Mitchell said.
Continuing the forward move, player registration for next season has begun and prospective players can contact the club at secretarybaytigers@outlook.com, on 0415 684 555 or call into coach Matt Cross’s NRL office in Fenning Arcade.
The Tigers’ recent player signings are Sean and Ryan Connell.
Ryan played in the under 18s this season and will go around again in 2015.
Sean, like many of his mates, had the year off and will be vying for a first grade spot.
Sean and Ryan are the grandsons of Batemans Bay’s 1948 premiership, and Team of the Century prop, Kevin Connell, and will be keen to carry on the tradition when the club returns to Group 16 next season.
The season of upsets continued at Wollongong on Sunday when the Nowra-Bomaderry Jets, led by captain/coach Ben Wellington, blew Warilla off the park in the Group Seven grand final.
Warilla never recovered from a 20-nil half-time deficit and the full-time score of 30-20 had Benny and the Jets realising their dream.
It was a remarkable comeback by the Jets as they lost their first five competition games and had risen from the bottom to claim the main prize.
In reserve grade Kiama beat Gerringong 22-4, Shellharbour narrowly defeated Gerringong 16-14 in under 18s, Shellharbour Stingrays pipped Albion Park Outlaws 19-18 in third grade and the Milton-Ulladulla Bulldogs knocked off Kiama 12-8 to win the league tag title.
The club’s next big fundraiser is the Camping and Caravan Expo at Mackay Park in early November.
The Tigers will need a lot of assistance over the three-day weekend and anyone willing to help in the various canteens can phone or email the secretary.
