Our Voices, a multi-faith movement aiming to bring millions of voices from people of all faiths and beliefs to the UN Climate talks in Paris in December 2015, is inviting everyone to meet at Riverside Park at 12.30pm before walking to St John’s Anglican Church to ring the bell, and then returning to the park for a picnic.
Organiser and Moruya Anglican Church minister Reverend Linda Chapman said that Earth Hour ambassador Annette Kennewell would speak on climate change actions and solutions there on the day.
The event will coincide with a United Nations global climate change summit being held in New York and convened by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon on Sunday.
Ms Chapman is keen to contribute more Christian voices to the climate change issue.
“Climate change is not an event that will happen somewhere in the distant future,” she said.
“It’s happening right now, with devastating consequences for some of the world’s most vulnerable people. It is one of the most pressing issues of our time, and Christians around the world are standing alongside people of all faiths to raise our voices and call for action.”
“On Sunday we'll not only make history, we'll help change the future. Come and join us.”
Ms Chapman said similar rallies would be happening all over Australia and in 59 other countries around the world.
