But sometimes you just have to stand up for what you believe in and many in our shire don’t believe a festival promoting killing for pleasure is right for Narooma.
Even several of the HuntFest organisers have said that they don’t eat what they kill.
We live in what I consider to be the most beautiful place on Earth.
We adore our beaches, lakes and bush. We love soaking it all in.
If not having guns at HuntFest causes the end of the festival, some in our group will be very happy to join a committee to run another festival in town.
Perhaps a mid-winter festival that promotes all we love about our local culture of the great outdoors: sport, bushwalking, camping, fishing, great food and family fun.
We don’t believe hunting is part of our local culture. Most of us delight in our wildlife.
It’s true that fishing is a type of hunting but it is very much a part of what we do here.
Most people eat what they catch or give it to friends.
The sight of a person with a fishing rod wandering through the bush has a very different effect on many people’s psyche than a person with a gun in the same place.
If anyone is interested in helping run an alternative festival, or has some great ideas, please email us at all2besafe@gmail.com.
