The Canberra club, which won the first, second and fourth grade titles last season, will present a big test for the Bay.
Western Districts will also feature promising juniors Matt Gilkes from Ulladulla and Tom Engelbrecht from Tuross Head.
Batemans Bay’s team has been
bolstered by the inclusion of “local legends” Greg McDonald and Paul Britt.
The two clubs will play a 40-over match at 10.30am on Saturday while an interclub Twenty20 match will be played on the adjacent field.
The Bay has nominated teams in first, second and fourth grades of the Shoalhaven competition.
Club president Paul Gallen said the club was waiting on numbers before nominating a third-grade team.
“We are nearly there so if you’re thinking about having a run this
season, either contact myself or come down to training at 4pm on Thursdays because final nominations are next week,” Gallen said.
On Saturday night, players and their partners and club supporters are invited to Mariners on the Waterfront for the season launch and dinner.
The following day, Western Districts will conduct a one-and-a-half- to two-hour training session starting at midday.
Bay players are invited to attend.
ACT under 17s coach John Cheadle will run a junior training session at the same time. A barbecue will follow at 2pm.
To attend the dinner, phone Gallen on 0409 035 615 or email paulgallen@bigpond.com.
