A can a week each week in the lead up to Christmas is all you need to contribute to a hamper to help those in need.
The Batemans Bay Soup Kitchen is calling on community members to participate in its ‘15 can challenge’.
Soup Kitchen founder Carolyn McDermott said she wanted to start putting hampers together to help out Soup Kitchen patrons over Christmas.
“We are basically 15 weeks out from Christmas, 15 weeks, 15 cans,” Mrs McDermott said.
“We have 30 to 40 regular patrons, if we could get at least 30 to 40 people to participate in the challenge, we know we could send a hamper of 15 cans home with each patron.
“If double that amount does it, they are going to get a decent hamper for Christmas and it will make life so much easier for them.”
Mrs McDermott is asking people to put just one non-perishable food item in their weekly shopping to contribute to the hampers, such as canned or long-life dry goods, event Christmas pudding or long-life custard.
Drop-off points for donated items are Vaemp Shoes and Coconut Grove in Batemans Bay and The Muffin Shop in Mossy Point.
