The junior Boars started slowly and were losing 5-nil after three minutes and were down a further 12-nil two minutes later.
The Boars began to ease into the game with hard running and great support which led to their first try.
The Boars were trailing 12-7 but Wests continued to make “easy metres” and hit back with a try of their own to lead 19-7.
The Boars clawed another try back but before half-time Wests spread the margin to 12 points with a late try.
After half-time the young Boars showed their belief scoring first to trail 26-21 with 15 minutes in play.
The game was in the balance for the next minutes but the Boars’ usual consistent defence was punctured again and Wests scored to take a 31-21 lead.
The Boars did not give in and hit back quickly to trail by three points.
In the last minute of the match, the Bay had the ball deep in Wests’ half.
The Boars had a scrum and managed to get close to the line, but the fairy tale was not to be as the full-time whistle blew.
Coach Ronnie Collier said the young team had exceeded expectations in their first year in the ACT competition.
“This side has done our club proud by playing an expansive style of rugby for a young side lead by senior players Bonnie Brewer, Josiah Brierly, Reilly Smith, Ben Fish, Jordon Wattam, Malaki Stedman, Dallas Cullen, Maddison Bayes-Morton, Jack Todd-Tobin and Dillon Collier,” Collier said.
These players will move up an age group into the under 11s while Henry Rice, Ben MaGann, George Matthews, Henry Wilks, Patrick Hogan, Kyle Young and Lachlan Collier can play under 10s again.
The club will hold its presentation on September 7 at Hanging Rock.
“To all our sponsors, thanks for your support this year and in the future of our growing junior club,” Collier said.
“To our parents, grand parents and senior club our heartfelt thanks from the mighty Junior Boars.”
